Our story

A grocer’s obsession with the fruit nobody else stocks

Murray's Exotic Fruit started with Bill Murray, a market stall, and a question he couldn’t let go of: why does a coastal Mediterranean market, surrounded by some of the best growing conditions in the world, still only sell the same six fruits every summer?

Bill spent years buying direct from growers along the Aegean and the Spanish coast: fruit that never made it past the local market because it bruised too easily, ripened too fast, or simply had no name anyone recognized. Figs still warm from the tree. Loquats picked before dawn. Cherimoya from a single grove in the Costa Tropical that most of Spain has never tasted.

From there it was a short step to the fruit that doesn’t grow here at all: dragon fruit, mangosteen, rambutan, black sapote, sourced from growers we know by name and flown in on a cold chain built specifically for fruit this fragile.

Today Murray's Exotic Fruit sources and ships across Greece, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia, and southern France, still run on the same rule Bill started with: if it isn’t good enough to serve at his own table, it doesn’t go in a box.
